Join us as we learn about digital books and how to find and read them

This webinar & accompanying handouts explore:

  • What eBooks are

  • How to find eBooks

  • How to access and use eBooks

There's nothing better than cuddling up with a good book and getting immersed in the author's world.

Unfortunately, not everyone is able to experience the joy of reading. It can also be an enormous burden! We all know people who experience barriers to reading for pleasure and are unable to understand the content in books that are required for school or work.

Do you suggest to others that they listen to talking books, books "on tape" or eBooks? Or has someone told you to use digital books? There are so many different ways to access them that it can get confusing. The first step is to know what's possible and then you can begin to figure out your next steps.

Some online libraries require a documented "print disability" such as Learning Ally and Bookshare, while others are available for everyone such as Audible and Kindle Books. Some digital book apps offer free books such as Libby and others are great for learners of all ages who require visuals and additional features to access the content such as Tar Heel Reader and Epic! Most digital books can be read on mainstream devices such as computers and tablets but may require certain apps and different apps offer different features. Other books are available right in the browser! Suffice it to say that not all "eBooks" are the same.

This webinar & accompanying handouts will show you:

  • the benefits and drawbacks of reading digital books,

  • a variety of formats and features,

  • using dedicated vs. multi-purpose devices,

  • different book reading apps, and

  • online digital libraries.
